Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, I would like to request the following information:

Please provide this information for each site within your Trust that operates an Emergency Department.

Does your Trust stock hyaluronidase (e.g., Hyalase®) within the hospital pharmacy?
 
Answer To Question 1:
Yes
 
Question Number 2:
Is hyaluronidase available for immediate use in the Emergency Department (A&E) or accessible without delay 24/7?
 
Answer To Question 2:
Not available directly in ED, but is held as stock in main theatres to which there is 24/7 access
Also held in the pharmacy dispensing robot which can be accessed remotely by the emergency duty pharmacist 24/7 and stock supplied into the emergency cupboard, which can be accessed 24/7 by registered ED staff.

If yes, please specify:

• The formulation stocked (e.g., 1500 IU vials, other).

• Typical number of vials routinely held.

• The location of stock (ED, theatre, on-call pharmacy, etc.).
 
Answer To Question 3:
• The formulation stocked (e.g., 1500 IU vials, other). 1500 unit vial

• Typical number of vials routinely held. 10 vials held in each location: pharmacy, main theatres, day surgery and laser clinic.

• The location of stock (ED, theatre, on-call pharmacy, etc.). Day surgery theatres, main theatres, pharmacy, laser clinic
 
Question Number 4:
If not routinely stocked in A&E, what is the typical time and process required to obtain hyaluronidase in an emergency?
 
Answer To Question 4:
ED staff can access stock held in main theatres, which are located on the next floor up within the same building
Following a phone call via switchboard to the emergency duty pharmacist the pharmacist can issue stock remotely, directly into the emergency out of hours medicines cupboard, which can be accessed by ED staff and is just along the same corridor as ED.
 
Question Number 5:
Does your Trust have a written protocol for management of vascular occlusion secondary to hyaluronic acid dermal filler injection?
 
Answer To Question 5:
Emergency Dept - No, cases of this would be managed inline with guidance from Toxbase ( NPIS).
