| Question Number 1: I am writing under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 to request information relating to your Trust’s data, policies, and training provision concerning violence and aggression towards staff, as monitored under NHS England, the Care Quality Commission (CQC), and the Violence Prevention and Reduction (VPR) standards. The information requested is as follows: Section 1 – Violence and Aggression Statistics a. Please provide the most recent staff survey results or internal reporting data relating to violence and aggression incidents against staff, in line with NHS England, CQC, and VPR reporting frameworks. b. If available, please provide comparative data or trends over the past three years (e.g., 2022–2025). c. Please specify whether this information is collected through your Trust’s internal systems, ESR, Datix, or another platform. | |

| Question Number 2: Section 2 – Staff Training (Violence Prevention and Reduction / Conflict Resolution) a) Please confirm what levels of conflict resolution conflict management Physical intervention Breakaway training (e.g., Level 1, 2, or 3) are provided to clinical staff. b) Do you have Security In house or Outside Agencies and the level of their Training Please indicate: - Whether this training is mandatory; - The frequency/renewal period of the training (e.g., annually, every three years); and - Whether this is in line with Trust policy and NHS England VPR standards. | |
| Answer To Question 2: The trust has a suite of training courses available. There are internally run courses on communication and conflict. The trust has an in house security team and all staff are required to attend accredited Prevention and Management of Violence and Aggression training. Clinical staff have access to a 1 day Prevention and Management of Violence and Aggression and breakaway training. The Trust runs courses each month and at this point in time we are not looking at refresher training for clinical staff. All security staff are required to attend mandatory refresher training. Trust policies and management of violence and aggression is assessed against the NHSE VPR standard each year. | |
| Question Number 3: Section 3 – Training Compliance and Internal Standards a. Please provide the current compliance rate (%) for each training level (1, 2, and 3) for the most recent reporting year. b. Please confirm whether this level of compliance meets your Trust’s internal training standards or targets, and if not, what actions are in place to improve compliance. | |
| Answer To Question 3: Compliance for clinical staff is not measured as a compliance rate against a standard. Each course has a limit of 18 attendees and each course is regularly oversubscribed with more than 300 staff completing training in the past 18 months. | |
| Question Number 4: Section 4 – Training Delivery and Trainers Please confirm who delivers the conflict management and physical intervention training (e.g., Trust-employed security trainers, external providers, or clinical educators). | |
| Answer To Question 4: Internal courses are delivered by subject matter experts and all BILD and violence prevention training for security staff and clinical staff is facilitated by an externally BILD accredited trainer. | |
